What is LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces?
LAQFOIL® stretch ceiling technology is a suspended ceiling and wall system that consists of two components: an aluminum perimeter track and a lightweight stretch PVC or Canvas membrane that stretches and clips into the track. Stretch ceiling and surface systems can be used as ceiling adornments, wall coverings, floating panels, light boxes, soundproofing panels and creative 3D forms.
How durable is LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surface materials?
The material used is extremely durable and has been produced to withstand exceptionally heavy loads. In case of a water leak, it is able to hold up to 100L of water on a 1 square meter surface without rupturing. It is temperature stable with our membranes withstanding -40 °C to +90 °C temperatures. It will never fade, discolor, stain or absorb odours.
Is LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces fire rated?
Yes, we are completely fire resistant with the following ratings:
- Class 1 fire-rated across Canada, USA and Italy
- M1 fire-rated in France and Belgium
- B1 fire-rated in Germany
- Class 0 fire-rated in Great Britain
Are LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surface products safe to use?
LAQFOIL® stretch ceiling and surface systems are 100% safe to use. They are completely fire-resistant and meet all health, safety, and building code standards. For smoke clearance, LAQFOIL® surfaces are available with 10mm perforations in all colors. All sprinklers and safety equipment—such as surveillance cameras, exit signs, and technical devices—can be seamlessly integrated into our surface coverings.
LAQFOIL® stretch ceiling and surface products do not contain any volatile organic compounds (VOCs), cadmium, or bisphenol A (BPA). They are static-free, making them hypoallergenic by repelling airborne particulates. Our surfaces are non-toxic, certified by the United States Testing Company Inc., Biological Services Division, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
They are also completely anti-microbial and anti-fungal, and will never collect mold or bacteria. This makes LAQFOIL® stretch ceilings and surfaces ideal for use in the food and beverage industry as well as medical environments.
What is the lifespan of ceilings and wall coverings?
PVC membranes have a long lifespan of 50 to 70 years. We include a 15-year Manufacturer’s Warranty on all our LAQFOIL® Stretch PVC, Canvas and Translucent Wall Coverings. Does LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surface require any maintenance?
LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surface does not require any maintenance. It does not stain, collect dust and is self-deodorizing. If necessary, it can be cleaned with regular household cleaning agents or soap and water.
I have a popcorn (stucco) ceiling. Do I need to remove it before installing LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling?
No. LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling installation does not require any preparation from our customer. It is installed quickly and easily without any need to scrub or level the existing surface since we are simply covering it. The perimeter track will be attached to the wall right below the existing ceiling leaving a 0.5” to 1” gap between the existing and new ceiling.
How is LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces Installed?
All our products are installed by LAQFOIL® trained, certified and licensed installers in 2 easy steps:
- The profile is attached around the perimeter, either to the walls or to the walls and ceiling
- The stretch surface membrane is heated, stretched and inserted into the profiles.
How long does the installation of LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces take and is it destructive?
The installation process is fast, efficient, dust-free, mess free with little to no disturbance to the site. Furniture does not have to be moved out of the room. For a room that is about 100 square feet it would take about 4-5 hours to complete the installation.
Can LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces be used as an acoustical product?
To maximize auditory comfort, our LAQFOIL® Acoustic surfaces absorb up to 70% of noise. Sound travels through the perforated holes in our acoustic sheets, while the air in the pores creates resistance to the initial sound wave, partially converting it into heat energy. Additional resistance is provided by the air space between the existing ceiling and the acoustic membrane. We offer two types of acoustic sheets. Over what surfaces can LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces be installed?
Virtually any surface, whether that surface is finished or unfinished. In some cases, the material eliminates the need for drywall, totally compensating for it.
What happens to existing ceiling or light fixtures when LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling is installed?
Any existing ceiling or light fixture can be reinstalled into our stretched ceiling after installation. Fixtures such as chandeliers, ventilation systems, sprinklers, cameras, and speakers will be securely mounted to the frame through the membrane.
What kind of temperatures can LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces withstand?
Stretched ceilings are resistant to temperature from -40 °C to +90 °C without any physical changes to the membrane.
At what stage of renovation should LAQFOIL® Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces be installed?
It is best if LAQFOIL® Stretched Ceilings and Surfaces installs in the final stage of your renovation, whether you are using stretch surface as your entire ceiling or as a decorative wall feature. Attachment surfaces where the aluminum profiles are secured should be completely finished, which means fully painted and cured. If our stretch surface is substituting for drywall or gypsum wall board, make sure all insulation, wiring, structure, ceiling and light fixtures are secured in place so we can identify where holes need to occur in the stretch surface.

Can Stretch Ceiling and Surfaces be damaged? Is it fixable?
The product is sensitive to sharp objects and can be punctured. Depending on the nature of the damage, stretch ceiling can be repaired. In some cases, the ceiling or wall may need to be partially or fully re-installed.
